Uppercut Sound is a club night run by me and two friends, aiming to showcase the dark, percussive side of underground techno and electro not often seen in Leeds. We all DJ and organise the events together but my main focus is the visual side, cultivating a consistent brand image that’s in line with our underground DIY sound. This brand image of the event has been created through my use of design, shown through posters, flyers, stickers, t-shirts, logos and more. This homegrown attitude is continued in all aspects of running the event, from screen printing the t-shirts myself to the small DIY spaces we hold our events in. This ongoing self-led brief allows me to explore different techniques, methods and collaborations, such as collaborating with a 3D illustrator for a poster and a typographer for t-shirts and artwork.
