The
Fisherman

The Fisherman is the title of a collection by Reece Clayton, combining Japanese workwear with US naval tradition to create a gritty, nautical and industrial feel. This brief involves a collaboration with this designer, photographing the garments and producing a lookbook for the collection that effectively conveys the concept through contextually appropriate visual methods. The lookbook for the collection continues this concept, showcasing the garments with a grid system based off a 1945 US Navy logbook, set against Japanese sashiko inspired patterns that display traditional sailor tattoos to further show the dichotomy between the two overarching themes. These patterns are printed in indigo, a colour with heavy traditions in Japanese history as well as American workwear. The photography aims to show a narrative of two fishermen, showing them at different stages of the day to display the functionality and authenticity of the garments, as well as a setting that manages to showcase both the Japanese and industrial nature of the concept.
